We were on a long trip and almost didn't get home. I have very much a similar problem on my 2011 Ford Escape. Issue is with tone ring on many Ford Escapes from 2000-2008. I would look for a fluid leak or a problem with the parking brake. The abs light is a separate system from the brakes. It's at Ford right now and they seem a little clueless about what the actual problem is and what to do to fix it. Wouldn't start, no clicking, no nothing. Upon examination he noticed the sensing ring on the front drivers side of the axle was broken.
